Demonstrates: Implementation of Multiprac Infection Control and Staff Health system at  Ramsay Health Care's Greenslopes Private Hospital

Main outcome:

Implementation of a faster, more reliable solution that integrated to the Patient Administration Systems and reduced the input time for Pathology with the future possibility of an automatic interface.

Roll-out:

The project went live in Greenslopes Hospital in Nov 2014 after a three-month project.

Overview:

Greenslopes Private Hospital is the 678-bed flagship hospital for the Ramsay Health Care (RHC) - Australia’s largest and most reputable private hospital operator. This world-class tertiary medical facility is the leading private teaching hospital in the country.

Greenslopes has implemented the Multiprac Infection Control and Staff Health system and has interfaced Multiprac with the RHC MEDITECH Patient Administration System (PAS) and the RHC Human Resource system. The subsequent phases will interface with Pathology for notifications and theatre for Surgical Site Surveillance.

Objective:

With the old system failing, the need to speed up implementation was critical – as was the need to streamline efficiency and effectiveness. Key objectives included:

  • Reduction of risk, due to the old IC system failing Improvement
  • Improvement of staff health activities, such as staff occupational exposure, vaccinations and take on processes
  • Ability to identify, develop and measure clinical improvement programs across the facility that will increase patient and healthcare worker safety
  • Reduction in costs associated with HAI incidence
Our solution:

A web-based solution web-based with minimal impact related to change management, due to similarity, but with improved functionality to the old system. The new Multiprac Infection Control HAI surveillance system delivers a suite of surveillance-related modules to the clinicians, enabling detailed surveillance and reporting of:

  • Blood stream infections
  • Significant organism
  • Surgical site infection
  • Occupational exposures
  • Outbreak management (including Contact Tracing)
  • Staff Health
  • This detailed data collection couples with templated infection management activities to provide a complete infection management system.

Key results:

Since implementing the Multiprac Infection Control &Staff Health system, Greenslopes have achieved the following results

  • Increased time for the ICPs to implement infection improvement programs by reducing data capture workload through integration with:
  • Patient Administration System
  • Pathology systems improved input
  • A single consistent Infection Control Database for reporting
  • Implementing a solution that is capable of being supported, enhanced and follows health standards to future proof the solution
  • Implemented a high quality solution that was thoroughly tested including
  • Unit testing in the Agile methodology
  • User Acceptance and Functionality testing
  • Independent Load and Performance
  • Independent Access and Security testing
  • A fast project roll-out, due the system being easy to use, ICP designed and web-based.

Benefits:

  • Reduced Risk
  • Improved Staff Health and compliance
  • Improvement of the efficiencies and effectiveness of HAI clinical surveillance activities
  • Improved staff health activities
  • Ability to identify, develop and measure clinical improvement programs across in Greenslopes that will increase patient and healthcare worker safety
  • Reduction in costs to Greenslopes, associated with HAI incidence
  • An enterprise system with a low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) with ongoing development and support

Testimonial:

'We recently had ISO audits and Ocean’s Multiprac assisted us with getting through, especially with the reporting. We also use the statistical reporting to identify periods where something was different and to work out what went right or wrong, this gives us continual improvement and monitoring.” – Desleigh Smith, Infection Control Team Leader,
