Ocean Health Systems launches new knowledge-sharing series to advance clinician-led innovation
We are proud to announce the launch of a new virtual knowledge-sharing initiative, On the Horizon, beginning with an international webinar: Supporting Clinicians with Their Digital Toolbox.
As healthcare systems worldwide accelerate their digital transformation, clinicians face increasing complexity, balancing patient care with data, compliance, and interoperability demands. Ocean’s new series aims to bridge that gap by empowering clinical leaders with practical insight into how digital tools, open standards, and global collaboration can enhance daily workflows and improve patient outcomes.
Hosted by Lukas Eksteen, CEO of Ocean Health Systems, the inaugural session draws on key discussions and outcomes from EHRCon 2025, held in Barcelona recently. The session will unpack the role of clinician-led design, clinical knowledge modelling, and standards such as openEHR and FHIR in shaping the next generation of interoperable health systems.
“Across every market, we’re seeing the same challenge – clinicians are expected to adopt technology faster than the systems around them evolve,” said Eksteen. “This series is about giving them a voice, the right tools, and a clear view of how technology can work for them, not against them.”
The discussion will also reflect Ocean’s active participation in global developments across Europe as well as on home soil in Australia, whilst diving into Ocean’s role as Australia’s only openEHR specialist contributing to the global CKM ecosystem.
Speakers include:
Desleigh Smith, Infection Control Specialist and Clinical Lead for Multiprac – Ocean Health Systems
Dr Sam Heard, Co-Author openEHR Specs
Leigh Hicks, Chief Operating Officer – Ocean Health Systems
Together, the panel will explore lessons from international initiatives such as the European Health Data Space (EHDS), the evolution of CKM projects across CatSalut, NHS Scotland, and the Netherlands, and new modelling collaborations that bring clinical knowledge closer to practice. The conversation will also examine advancements in infection control and analytics systems, including Ocean’s work in clinical data repositories and audit-driven reporting solutions.
The Healthcare Horizons series underscores Ocean’s commitment to supporting clinicians through global collaboration, open standards, and practical innovation. Each session will bring together voices from across healthcare, policy, and technology, providing a platform for thought leadership and shared learning in an increasingly interconnected digital health landscape.
Registration is now open. Join the conversation and explore how digital innovation is reshaping healthcare from the ground up.
